Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana was “recently offered” to Bayern Munich, according to Sport1‘s Chief Reporter Kerry Hau.
However, the German journalist claims the Bundesliga champions opted against making a move for the France international as he was “too expensive”:
It should be noted that Hau is usually pretty reliable so it is a big surprise to hear that Fofana has been offered up to other teams.
Chelsea have been actively trying to sell players, with five having been officially offloaded so far, with a number of others expected to follow soon. Even so, Fofana is not a name that has been mentioned as someone who could leave.
Fofana has only been at the club for a short period of time
The Frenchman made the switch from Leicester City last summer, with Chelsea paying £70m upfront, and another £5m in addons. It was seen as a sizeable fee for a player who was still only 21 and had his fair share of injury problems.
Concerns about his fitness were justified as Fofana missed 20 games last campaign, with the centre-back making only 22 appearances during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea need to keep Fofana
With Kalidou Koulibaly having left for Saudi Arabia, and Trevoh Chalobah tipped for a move to Inter Milan, the Blues could be left with just two right-sided centre-halves.
If we also take into account that Thiago Silva has a year left on his contract, it would make absolutely no sense to sell Fofana at this time. It will be hoped that the 22-year-old stays at the club.
