Lucas Torreira and Dusan Vlahovic were both on target for Fiorentina on Monday evening against Genoa – and Arsenal supporters were keeping a keen eye on proceedings.
Gunners fans were keen to see how Vlahovic got on amid links with a January transfer to the Emirates, as well as loanee Torreira who has been in fine form since moving to Italy from Spain.
Those tuning in got more than they bargained for – watching both men find the back of the net with Uruguay midfielder Torreira steering home a header despite being only 5ft 6in tall.
With Serbia international Vlahovic set to move on this month, and Torreira potentially working his way back into the Premier League side following his good form, fans all had the same thing to say.
One wrote: “Lucas Torreira celebrates with his Arsenal team mate Dusan Vlahovic after scoring against Genoa tonight.”
With a second adding: “Two Arsenal players have scored for Fiorentina tonight Vlahovic and Lucas Torreira.”
A third said: “Lucas Torreira and Dusan Vlahovic tearing it up in the Serie A. One past Arsenal player. One soon to be Arsenal player.”
With a fourth adding: “Vlahovic to Arsenal. Here we gooooo!!!!”
According to Corriere Della Sera, Fiorentina are keen for Torreira, 25, to sign for them on a permanent deal should Arsenal win the race to sign their star striker.
Torreira hasn’t played for Arsenal since 2019/20, having joined Atletico Madrid on loan last season, and has only one full season left on his contract in north London.
Fiorentina are demanding £63million for the signing of Vlahovic, 21, but their report adds that £50million plus Torreira might be enough to convince them to sell.
Mikel Arteta was asked directly about links to Vlahovic last week, and offered a cryptic response.
He said: “I am really sorry to disappoint you, but I am not going to be discussing any transfer rumours. I have never done it, and obviously we cannot do it.”
Before adding of the club’s plans for the window: “What I really want this month is that we have as many players as possible fit and healthy and that we do the best and maximum with those players.
“After we have a strategy of how we want to evolve and improve the team, and whenever that is possible we are going to try to do it. We all know that this market is extremely difficult.”
