Chelsea beat Man City in the race to sign Michael Olise

Chelsea now look set to intensity their pursuit of Michael Olise in the coming days after it was confirmed that the Crystal Palace No.7 has a £35m release clause.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Michael Olise and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?
Well – according to 90min – Chelsea believe they have beaten Arsenal and Manchester City to the Londoner’s signature, due to their strong relationship with his family.

Olise spent seven years in Chelsea’s academy from 2009 to 2016, and his younger brother – Richard Olise – is currently involved in the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge.

Now, according to Romano, Chelsea could step up their pursuit of the France Under-21 international in the coming days.

The reliable Italian journalist has confirmed that Olise has a £35m release clause written into his contract at Crystal Palace, after a period of uncertainty about that particular topic.

Romano wrote on Twitter (now known as X): “Release clause confirmed. Man City and Chelsea interest confirmed. Olise, one to follow in the next days/weeks.”

The 21-year-old lit up the Premier League last season with two goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances.

Only Kevin De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard registered more assists, with Olise consequently becoming the first Crystal Palace player in history to record more than ten assists in a top-flight campaign.

The Chelsea target also became the youngest player in Premier League history to notch three assists in one game, achieving the feat as Crystal Palace hammered Leeds 5-1 in April at Elland Road.

Chelsea need to be quick on Michael Olise
As aforesaid, Chelsea believe they have already beaten Manchester City to Olise’s signature, although the Blues need to get things wrapped up quickly.

Pep Guardiola has just lost Riyad Mahrez to Saudi Arabia, and Olise represents a scarily similar player to the Algerian, in the way that he cuts inside from the right flank on his stronger left foot – even their dribbling style is the same.

Therefore, Manchester City could make a huge push for the Crystal Palace wonderkid in the coming days, so Chelsea must get a deal finalised as soon as possible.
