Chelsea have agreed to purchase most of a 1.2 acre site from the Stoll Foundation. The area sits next to Stamford Bridge and will allow for the possibility to expand the area of the stadium should it be redeveloped.
The deal had been agreed by the board of trustees in July but had to go through a nine-week consultation process. Stoll suggest that the deal will see them be able to offer better services for veterans and to secure their future.
They said on X: “Today we have announced that we have agreed to sell the majority of our Fulham site to the Chelsea FC ownership group following a 9-week resident consultation. This will enable us to establish new properties, better services for veterans & secure Stoll’s financial sustainability.”
Reports suggest Chelsea have purchased the land for as much as £80million, but may not take possession of it until 2025. Approximately 100 homes look to have been sold with the charity retaining 20 flats.
Stoll Chief Executive, Will Campbell-Wroe, said: “The Chelsea FC ownership group’s offer enables us to limit uncertainty for residents and offer support over a longer period of time.”
While the purchase of the land opens up possibilities within the vicinity of Stamford Bridge, nothing is imminent in the future of Chelsea’s ground, with a number of options remaining on the table.
