Chelsea give update on Wesley Fofana injury ahead of Wolves tie

Chelsea are confident Wesley Fofana’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first feared and could be back playing before the World Cup in November. The France Under-21 international was seen hobbling away from Stamford Bridge on crutches and it was feared he would miss a significant portion of the season. According to The Evening Standard, however, the early prognosis is positive after initial scans delivered encouraging results.

Ecstasy soon turned to agony for Fofana in just his fourth appearance for Chelsea. He gave the Blues the lead against AC Milan with his first goal for his new club – and just his second in English football – but was reduced to tears with a potentially-severe knee injury less than a quarter of an hour later.
Chelsea have received a boost as it’s emerged Wesley Fofana has avoided serious injury after breaking down during their Champions League win against AC Milan. But it now appears the damage may be as limited as a sprain on his knee and while he is expected to miss Saturday’s home game with Wolves he will not be out long term.
So, hopefully this report is accurate and hopefully it is also the full extent of the diagnosis — and not like Chilwell’s case last year, where we tried for a month to rehab the injury before biting the bullet and having him undergo the operation.
Fresh from an impressive win against AC Milan, Graham Potter has been left with little time to savour his first Champions League victory as Chelsea coach. The Blues boss’ attention will swiftly have turned to Wolves and the busy month lying in wait. It’s a quick turnaround for the west London side with Friday likely offering the only significant preparation for the west Midlands side, who are without a manager following the sacking of Bruno Lage.
