Chelsea first choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been reportedly leaving Stamford Bridge this summer
The Chelsea boss wasn’t the one who signed the goalkeeper, nor even his successor, but he’s been left with the mess, and now he’s got to sort it all out.
In his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game he was asked about what would happen to the world record fee goalkeeper this summer, and as always he praised him, while not ruling anything out:
“We did not have a conversation [about Kepa’s future] yet… It depends what he wants and what his plans are. I know that we are very privileged to have Edou and Kepa in our squad but I also know for sure that Kepa is not happy about the situation because he deserved to play more and he can be a very strong number one,” the Chelsea coach said in quotes picked up by Football.London.
The situation will likely remain the same as it has the last two summers. Chelsea are open to selling the Basque stopper, but only at a price that makes his £70m sale not look ridiculous. Nobody is willing to off anything near that, so the situation remains stuck, as year by year he ticks closer to the end of his contract.
Eventually, his deal will get close enough to its finish that a mutually agreeable price is found. But we don’t think that will be this summer.
Tuchel on Kepa’s future: “It depends on what he wants to do, what his plans will be…”.
“I know for sure that Kepa is not happy about the situation and he deserves to play more and he can be a strong number one”, he added.
