Chelsea new signing wants to change shirt number after debut against Liverpool

Why Liverpool were not awarded penalty for Nicolas Jackson's handball vs Chelsea

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez is already set to change his squad number after just one game with the club.

He took to Twitter to state that he is now going to take the number one shirt recently vacated by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Sanchez made his debut for his new club at the weekend, as he instantly became Chelsea’s number one between the sticks.

He was unable to do anything about Luis Diaz’s opener, however his confidence certainly grew as the game went on.

Supporters were particularly impressed late on when he came out and claimed what looked a very dangerous corner by the Reds.

Despite being a very simple part of the game, the fans inside Stamford Bridge have not been used to seeing that in recent years.

Robert Sanchez to change numbers
Last season saw Kepa emerge again as the number one for Graham Potter, displacing Edouard Mendy from the team mostly due to his ability to play with his feet.

However, that slight improvement with the ball has come at the cost of a number of goals that perhaps could be prevented finding their way into the back of the net.

The 28-year-old has now found his way to Real Madrid on loan, after an injury was suffered by Thilbaut Courtois that is likely to keep him out for the rest of the season.

This will see an increase in the confidence of Sanchez, and Kinsella has claimed this is going to be shown by his new squad number.

He said: “Robert Sanchez to take Kepa’s no1 shirt at Chelsea just a few days later.”

It remains to be seen whether they address the recent departure with another signing this summer.
