Chelsea now interested to sign talented player who Mauricio Pochettino compared to Messi

It has been claimed in recent hours that Chelsea are interested in completing the signing of Sporting Lisbon attacker Marcus Edwards.

According to Simon Phillips, the Blues have considered a deal to sign the highly-promising 24-year-old as they look to further add to their attacking enforcements for this season.

A new signing in that role is something that Mauricio Pochettino has not made it a secret that he is looking to add this summer.

This is perhaps due to the injury suffered late in pre-season by Christopher Nkunku, who up to then had been the most expensive addition of the window.

He had been very impressive too, which has made it even tougher for the Blues as they expect to miss him for the rest of 2023.

They have made attempts to fill this void already, most notably trying to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

However, the Frenchman ended up signing a new contract to remain at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future.

In the club’s attempts to return to the drawing board, it has now been claimed that Edwards is one of the names they are considering.

Pochettino has experience working with the Englishman before, with him being a former product of the Tottenham academy.

He said: “The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.

“He (Edwards) is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player, but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player. But now it’s how he builds his future, that’s very important. And it’s our responsibility to tell him.”

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea make any more moves in this window.
