Chelsea suffer injury blow as top star pulls out of Southgate’s squad against Ukraine
Chelsea’s right-back Reece James has pulled out of England’s squad ahead of their next game in the Euro 2024 qualifying series.
The defender will not play against Ukraine on Sunday and is expected back at Stamford Bridge after suffering a fresh injury setback.
James is finding life difficult over a persistent injury that has plagued his season, contributing to his absence at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 21-year-old just returned to Chelsea in recent weeks and came on as a late substitute in the Three Lions’ landmark win over Italy in Naples on Thursday.
And now Daily Telegraph reports that the defender has sustained a hamstring strain which both the player and his club hope is only minor.
Chelsea boss Graham Potter will hope James’ withdrawal is only a precaution given Chelsea’s upcoming fixture list.
