Chelsea to announce Romeo Lavia today as Michael Olise complete medical tests in London

BREAKING: Romeo Lavia lands in London undergoing medical tests to complete his move to Stamford Bridge

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia will soon be announced as a new Chelsea player.

That is according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

Sheth has reported on Thursday morning that Romeo Lavia, 19, has completed his medical ahead of his imminent transfer to Chelsea.

Apparently, the Belgian midfielder will soon be announced at Stamford Bridge as the newest Blues signing.

Sheth wrote on Twitter: “Romeo Lavia has completed Chelsea medical ahead of his move from Southampton. Formal announcement expected soon.”

Chelsea already completed the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton at the start of the week, so they’re about to bring supporters even more joy just days later.

Lavia enjoyed a breakout season last year at Southampton in the Premier League, so it’s no real surprise he’s exiting St Mary’s following their relegation to the Championship.

Despite his youth, the teenage defensive midfielder really held his own in the top division last year and is on the verge of this glamorous transfer to west London.

Sheth explained on Twitter a couple of days ago that Chelsea and Southampton reached a £58million agreement for the transfer of Lavia, who could be signed in time for Sunday’s league trip to West Ham.

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips reported on his Substack this week that Mauricio Pochettino’s conversation with Lavia is a big reason why the Saints talent is heading to Chelsea.

The Blues head coach is working with a young and talented squad of players at Stamford Bridge, which will be boosted by the arrival of Southampton’s 19-year-old midfield enforcer.

The competition for places in the centre of the park is looking fierce now Lavia and Caicedo are joining the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher and Andrey Santos.
