Chelsea ‘will bring in a traditional No.9’ in January transfer if this one thing continues

Jubilations in Stamford Bridge as Chelsea to complete £50m deal this week

Chelsea may be right back into the striker market come January if this one thing continues to happen this season.

The club signed Nicolas Jackson in the summer transfer window and he does look very good. However, he has not exactly hit the ground running yet in the opening games and he has only managed to get on the scoresheet once. Chelsea need their strikers to come up with more goals to avoid another season like last season.

Armando Broja will be back soon but he’s had a bad and long-term injury so there is no saying when he will be able to really hit the ground running again and if he will be able to hit form this season.

Journalist Ben Jacobs says that Chelsea will turn their attentions to a new traditional number 9 in January if the shyness in front of goal continues.

In fact, Jacobs has ‘no doubt’ about that.

EXCL: Reece James is viewed as untouchable right now. James is committed to Chelsea and Chelsea won’t consider a sale.

Writing in his latest extensive and exclusive Chelsea column for SPTC today, Jacobs says:

“There’s no doubt Chelsea will bring in a traditional No.9 in January if the shyness in front of goal continues. Ivan Toney remains one to watch. But Armando Broja returning to fitness could also make all the difference. Hopefully for Chelsea, Villa (who Newcastle put five past on opening day) is the game the floodgates finally open.”
