Chelsea splash £68m for high-rated Nigeria striker as he arrives London to undergo medical on his possible move to Stamford Bridge

An insight into the plans of one Chelsea transfer target has been explained.

Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina has seen himself linked heavily with Chelsea in the last few weeks.

The defender has been excelling in Qatar with Argentina and is now preparing to face Croatia in the semi-final on Tuesday evening.

However, whilst Chelsea are interested in Molina, it appears as though he has no plans to leave Atletico Madrid any time soon.

Fabrizio Romano said: “Despite links with Chelsea, I’m informed that Nahuel Molina has no plans to leave Atletico Madrid, and definitely not in January.

“He wanted Atleti move strongly in the summer and he’s not planning to leave now. There’s not even a price tag as he’s considered an important player by the Atletico board and by manager Diego Simeone.”

Chelsea targeting Molina does make a lot of sense at present. Reece James is their only really decent right-back option at present, especially if Graham Potter is using a back-five.

Cesar Azpilicueta can of course play in that role, but given his age he is now more suited to being used as a right-sided centre-back in a three.

Both Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi have also being used as a RWB by Potter recently, but it is clear neither player is well suited to that role, making a move for a natural right-back something of a priority.
