Frank Lampard blunt when asked if he heard anything about upcoming Chelsea manager

Frank Lampard was blunt when asked if he had any news on who was set to become the next permanent manager at Chelsea.

The temporary boss told Match of the Day in no uncertain terms that he had no update on the status of the job, as he remains in control for now.

Lampard oversaw his fifth consecutive defeat since joining the club again last night as his Blues side were soundly beaten 2-0 at home by West London rivals Brentford.

Team selection again raised some eyebrows, as the Englishman opted for a very similar side to the one which was tasked with overturning a two-goal deficit against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

This again saw N’golo Kante feature in an extremely high position, where his well-documented weaknesses in front of goal were again exposed.

At a time where games don’t seem to hold that much importance until the end of the season, it has been surprising that Lampard hasn’t utilised the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke more.

Despite reports that Carney Chukwuemeka has been impressing in training, he was nowhere to be seen at Stamford Bridge last night.

Speculation has been growing that the club are about to announce a new manager to finally permanently replace Graham Potter.

However, when asked what he had heard about the situation, Lampard simply said: “Nothing.”

It looks at this moment in time that the job is Mauricio Pochettino’s to lose after a number of candidates fell to the wayside.

Talks have reportedly been going well between the two parties, with some reports even claiming that Chelsea may look to announce the Argentine as their new coach as early as next week ahead of next season.
