Romeo Lavia is the latest blow as understands that the midfielder is set to miss at least one month of action with an ankle issue. In the mean time, there’s also the fallout of the summer transfer window as the Blues continue to be linked with a whole host of signings for January.

Hazard return dead in the water

Over the course of the summer, reports had emerged that Eden Hazard could return to Chelsea after his exit from Real Madrid.

However, the 32-year-old was never close to re-joining the club. According to Ben Jacobs, Hazard, who could retire, never saw a return to Stamford Bridge as an option.

Mudryk hype

Former Dynamo Kiev assistant manager Diego Longo has backed Mykhailo Mudryk to come good at Chelsea.

The Blues winger has been labelled a ‘dangerous player’ ahead of Ukraine’s European Championship qualifier with Italy. “Mudryk is a big danger, an extraordinary player,” he told Sport Italia.

“I was lucky enough to see him and meet him. To tell you the truth even to suggest him to some Italian clubs when he was worth very little. But as always the answer was that they couldn’t risk it.

“After a year and a half, we know how much money he went to Chelsea for. Tonight many who didn’t even know who he was before will have the chance to get to know him better or change their minds. There are also others.”

Palmer on Chelsea move

Cole Palmer has described his move to Chelsea as a “huge decision”.

Speaking about why he decided to leave Man City for the Blues, the England Under-21s international said: “I’m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at City) because I’ve never done that,” Palmer said. ‘

“I’d been there (around the first team) for a few years and wanted more of an opportunity to play – in my position and to have more of an impact.

“It was a huge decision. When I left the training ground on the Thursday I knew I was going to London the next day. It all just hit me, sat in the car and going to drive out. I was just thinking, “you’ve been here 15 years”.

Chalobah reacts

Trevoh Chalobah has shared a cryptic message on his Instagram account following reports he will be allowed to leave the club in January.

A video shared on his Instagram story read: “Hey god, I ain’t gonna lie man, I’m tired. But I can’t give up right now. So whatever you want me to go through, let’s do it. I came too far so I can’t quit.”

Chukwuemeka update

Chelsea star Carney Chukwuemeka has dropped a hint over a potential return from injury on his social media, handing a boost to head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Taking to Instagram, the midfielder posted a picture of himself in football boots with a caption that involved an hourglass, seemingly suggesting he will be back soon. That would be welcome news to all involved at the club, especially given their recently long list of injury troubles.

Add to that the problems that Pochettino has faced in unlocking defences early into the Premier League season too. The new head coach has four points from the opening four games with their only two losses coming against West Ham and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Chalobah latest

Chelsea are still looking to sell Trevoh Chalobah when the January transfer window opens, understands.

The 24-year-old, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury, wanted to move to Bayern Munich at the end of the recently-concluded window, with the German club wanting to sign the defender on a loan deal. Chelsea, however, who were open to letting Chalobah leave Stamford Bridge, preferred the proposition of a permanent deal.

The Blues were seeking around £50million for Chalobah – a figure Bayern were reluctant to pay. Time ran out for the German champions, with their deadline being at 5pm on the final day of the window, meaning Nottingham Forest came in with a late proposal to sign the defender permanently. However, Chalobah did not want to move to Forest so a deal never materialised…

Badiashile hint

Chelsea finally have some good news on the injury front as defender Benoit Badiashile has been pictured back in training ahead of the Blues’ clash with AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

There was some hope that he could feature heavily and progress under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, though early inroads into that were impacted by a hamstring injury before pre-season. It has taken months of working to get back to a point where he is now in contention for match action again.

Whether he starts against Bournemouth is another question though, given his lack of match action, however a post from Chelsea’s official social media account showed the youngster back in training and has hinted at his return. So far, Pochettino has preferred a backline that consists of Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto, with Ben Chilwell pushed up to play at left-wing.

Will Chelsea get top-four?

In an interview with Saxo, financial expert Rob Wilson said: “Boehly avoiding a hugely expensive mistake looks like consistent qualification for the Champions League, lower player wages, a squad number cap that has a talented first 11 and has a pipeline of playing talent they can sell, probably homegrown, for significant sums.

“Releasing players like Mount was interesting, it went against what I thought they might do but they may have academy players they will look to cash in on with a view to increasing the value of the organisation.

“Success would definitely be consecutive Champions League qualification and then getting to knockouts, shirt sponsors who are attracted because of sporting performance and not owner connection. They probably need to move or significantly invest in Stamford Bridge to improve that value, but of course having now spent that money, the running total of the acquisition probably sounds just under £4bn now. They will be looking to increase the value of the club by at least 30%, if not more.”

Toney urged to join Arsenal…

Former England international Jay Bothroyd has urged Arsenal to try and sign Toney as a replacement for current first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus. Speaking about the 27-year-old on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, Bothroyd said said: “[Toney’s] an A for me, he scores goals, he’s prolific, he’s strong, he leads the line really well.

“If you put him in one of the top teams he will score at least 20 Premier League goals per season. Great on penalties, penalties he’s unbelievable. If you took him to someone like Arsenal, I would love Arsenal to sign him now. I think he would score more goals than Jesus, than Ollie Watkins, in the Premier League.”

Gusto message

Malo Gusto has claimed that he’s ‘excited’ to return to Chelsea following the international break. The 20-year-old defender has impressed for the Blues in Reece James’ absence this season, earning a call-up to the France Under-21s from Thierry Henry.

He recorded an assist for Bradley Barcola just before the hour mark in a crucial Euorpean Championship qualifier against Slovenia. Gusto’s former Olympique Lyonnais teammate was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer with Mauricio Pochettino in the market for a new right-winger, but Cole Palmer was signed instead.

With the France Under-21s dismissed until the next international break in October, Gusto is looking forward to returning to Cobham training ground. He tweeted: “Had a blast with the squad. Excited to head back home now.”

Lavia backup option ready!

Lesley Ugochukwu, who joined from Rennes this summer in a deal worth roughly £23million, has already had a taste of English football in the first few weeks at Chelsea and it appears as though he’s ready to fight for more minutes in the coming weeks.

Speaking to Le Parisien, he revealed that he is up for the challenge and said: “It’s the same everywhere, in any team, you are not sure to play. When I arrived at Chelsea, I knew where I was going. It’s up to you to prove yourself, to show that you deserve your place.

“Personally, I have never been afraid of competition. I will learn from very good players like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia, who is the same age as me. It’s up to me to go and get the most minutes.

“The learning that I have at Chelsea, daily and at weekends, will allow me to strengthen myself and mature in my game. When you are young, you have to play of course but there are trains that don’t pass twice.”

Will Real Madrid give up on Mbappe?

Real Madrid, who are widely considered favourites to sign Mbappe, are interested in signing Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, according to tycsports. Vlahovic U-turn…

Chelsea have been handed a potential twist in the chase for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic as the west London outfit gear up for a striker addition in the January transfer window.

The Serbian international was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the summer in a potential swap deal that would see Romelu Lukaku go the other way. That broke down though as the Belgian striker made a loan move to AS Roma to reunite with Jose Mourinho.

It remains to be seen if interest will in fact reignite for January, however there could be a slight twist in the tale for the Blues. That’s because, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are looking to offer a brand new contract to Vlahovic that will see him extend his stay by 12-months to 2027.

Doku deal blocked

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku seemingly blocked new Manchester City star Jeremy Doku from making the move to west London from Anderlecht years ago.

The Belgian winger has impressed in recent years as he moved to French club Rennes in 2020, where he continued to develop. At just 21 years old, his presence in Ligue 1 as well as his senior men’s national team was enough to see Premier League champions City make their move.

Lavia injury update

Romeo Lavia is expected to be out of action for over a month following an ankle injury he suffered last week at Cobham, understands.

The 19-year-old midfielder signed for Chelsea last month on a £58million deal from Southampton but is yet to feature for his new club. There was a growing expectation that Lavia would make his debut after the ongoing international break but this latest setback is likely to keep him out for the rest of September and for the majority of October as well, multiple sources have told
