Loaning 21 year old winger after largely disappointing 12 months would open door for more attacking spending

Bobby Vincent’s piece on Football.London this morning explores the idea of Noni Madueke going out on loan in January.

The winger is getting close to 0 minutes for Mauricio Pochettino at the moment, while his international performances for England’s U21 team in the last fortnight have reminded us all that he is ready to play and should be starting somewhere.

A loan seems like a good short term solution, although we should remember the injuries we’ve had – losing a couple of attacking players at once would be really damaging if Noni was gone.

One major factor that may play into Chelsea’s thinking here, and one not mentioned by Vincent in his article, is the way that loaning out Madueke opens up the door for more spending in January. The ownership have sold off about just as much dead wood as they can, and bought enough players to fill the gaps left behind.

That leaves them without much space for more splashy purchases – unless they now start loaning out and selling off players they bought themselves
