Reece James, other Chelsea players react as Andrey Santos leave on loan

Official Chelsea announce signing of Andrey Santos

Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos officially completed his move to Nottingham Forest yesterday.

A lot of Friday’s focus was centred around the Blues beating Luton 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, which was their first win of the Premier League season.

However, Andrey Santos did leave the club earlier on in the day to go in search of first-team minutes in English football.

The 19-year-old midfielder performed well during pre-season this summer, but his development will now continue at the City Ground with league rivals Forest.

Santos uploaded a message on Instagram yesterday after his season-long loan to Forest was confirmed.

It certainly says a lot about his impact in the dressing room in recent weeks that there’s several current Blues stars wishing him luck in the comment section, including club captain Reece James with a three-word response.

We’re really excited about Forest as a destination for Santos!

Chelsea have real strength in depth right now in the midfield position, so it would be a waste for Santos to spend most of the year watching from the stands.

However, the talented Brazilian will now have a fairer shot of playing matches at the Premier League level.

He’s a quality box-to-box midfielder that can contribute both defensively and offensively, which is why it’s intriguing to see how Forest manager Steve Cooper wants to use him.

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips reported on his Substack last month that Santos was seriously impressing everybody in Chelsea training in the summer. He’s now got to do it all over again in  new environment in Nottingham.

If the South American teenager does well out on loan this year, it could be the perfect fast-track into the Chelsea line-up.
