The links between Chelsea and Cristiano Ronaldo started last week, in pretty speculative fashion.
New owner Todd Boehly had met Jorge Mendes, and this was a pretty inevitable thing for them to talk about.
But as time as gone by that initial speculation has crystallised into something much more solid, and today David Ornstein has an exclusive with tons of new information about a potential deal.
🚨 EXCL: Chelsea considering Cristiano Ronaldo move. Man Utd currently say not for sale but #CFC monitoring & not ruling out. Mendes talks continue – Boehly/Eghbali intrigued by idea. Tuchel admires 37yo but unclear if he would approve @TheAthleticUK #MUFC https://t.co/oFgWSX1b8q

He says that Ronaldo has informed Man U that he wants to leave, and that Chelsea are considering trying to buy him.
Boehly is said to be “intrigued” by the idea of signing an “iconic figure” like Ronaldo.
The good news is that Thomas Tuchel’s wishes will be “key” to the signing, and while Tuchel is a “long term admirer” of Ronaldo, we can’t see how he would fit in to the long term rebuild that the club are trying to conduct this summer.
There’s also Manchester United to consider in all this, and they likely won’t want the humiliation of letting their star force his way out after just a year back at the club.
Chelsea fans will be happy to see Cristiano Ronaldo in Chelsea but the question is who will be the current shirt number 7 in Chelsea if the transfer deal is successful.
The speculation about Kante dropping the Chelsea jersey number seven (7) for Ronaldo is on a trend on social media as well as Ronaldo to Chelsea.
