Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri may have been brutally sacked by the club, but he’s such a likable chap that he clearly holds no grudges.
The manager – recently sacked by Watford after failing to turn their miserable season around – has backed Chelsea as among the favourites for this season’s Champions League title.
Football Italia had the quotes from the experienced coach where he named the three English sides in the competition as the favourites:
“Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are three top teams,” Ranieri said, “and one between Real Madrid and Manchester City will be eliminated.
We’re not sure how much of us he has seen recently, but we’re certainly not looking like Champions League favourites at the moment. We may have lifted the Club World Cup last week, but we made immensely heavy weather of it, and at the moment we’re more worried about our chances of getting past Lille in the second round of the competition than we are about winning it.
Still, it’s nice to know Claudio thinks we have what it takes to do the almost impossible and retain the trophy.
