What Guardiola said about Lampard’s return to Chelsea
Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola, has given his verdict on manager Frank Lampard’s return to Chelsea.
Guardiola said Lampard now has a ‘new opportunity’ at Stamford Bridge following his return to Chelsea.
Lampard was recently confirmed as Chelsea’s caretaker manager for the rest of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter last weekend.
The Englishman is a legend at Chelsea following his exploits as a player but endured an underwhelming spell as manager from July 2019 until his sacking in January 2021.
The former midfield maestro became Everton’s head coach following his departure from Chelsea but lost his job at Goodison Park in January as the Toffees battled relegation.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League tie with Southampton on Saturday, Guardiola said, “We were in touch when he [Lampard] was at Everton.
“It is good to see him back, it is a new opportunity at the club he loves and a new challenge for him.”
